Named after Theodore W. Brevard, Brevard County has a history that goes back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. The Native Americans who were the area's first inhabitants are said to have arrived here 12,000 years ago. The county as we know it today, however, started taking shape at the end of the 19th century and there are still a few Brevard County homes and buildings built at this time that are still standing today.
Its long history is one of the many things that give Brevard County its unique character. Another thing that defines the region are its diverse communities, each of which has its own personality. The City of Titusville, for example, Brevard's county seat, lies on the Indian River lagoon and is a hometown kind of place with a generous sprinkling of space culture.
Also family-oriented is Melbourne, which is home to high tech firms and adjacent to the vast planned community, Viera. If you're looking for a more manageably sized town, you might want to check out the cozier Satellite Beach, Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach, among others.
Whether you want to live in the heart of it all, right on the beach, or somewhere more rural, you'll find what you want in the eclectic selection of Brevard County homes on the market today.
